All right! Onto days 3 and 4. I’ll probably batch these into 2 poems/post going forward to keep the pace consistent.
I hinted at a history of writing poetry. Truthfully, I spent ages 10-15 hashing out my feelings (about everything) on paper. Some thoughts made it to Xanga. Imagine my surprise when Xanga announced during the mid-2010s that you could download your entire post history (at least, everything on their server)! In my case, this covered exactly two blog posts from 2005. This was a huge bummer because most of my ~deep~ writing dated to 2003/2004.
Anyway, on to today’s posts! I had fun trying new-to-me poetic forms for these.
Prompt 3 (Day 3) Write a Smell Poem
I couldn’t choose between these two, so have both! For context, one of my favorite breakfasts is sourdough toast with peanut butter and banana, sprinkled with cinnamon and a pinch of sea salt. I wrote both of these fueled by my first mangonada, courtesy of Las Mangonadas. (Highly recommend both!) These smell poems are in the reverse hay(na)ku style, which is similar to haiku.

Prompt 4 (Day 4): Write a Catch-Up Poem
Conveniently, this was the prompt for the day on which I discovered this challenge! I chose a descort style. It’s supposed to be for discordant verse (and prose), but I’ve read that this style can also be composed of purposefully different lines.
On Day Four I discover this monthlong challenge
Perfectly apt, this prompt
I pull out my nearly-filled notebook
Frantically test my long-dried-out pens for signs of life
I steal a moment of pre-dawn light
My cup overflowing with fuzzy thoughts
